It is true that copper cookware is pretty high maintenance and it needs proper cleaning technique. If you use the wrong technique, your cooper cookware will get discolored easily and its metal coating will erode. Besides the right technique, you also need the right copper pan cleaning solution. Thankfully, there are so many things you can grab from your kitchen to make an effective cleaning solution for your copper cookware. Not only they are cheap and easy to find, these ingredients also will not damage the surface of the pan. Here are some of them.
Salt and Vinegar
This is the most popular cleaning solution for cooper cookware and it is also very easy to use. Simply coat the copper pan with salt and vinegar and then rub the pan with soft sponge. Keep adding the vinegar and salt until all the stains are gone and then rinse with water. If the food stains are really stubborn, you can mix the vinegar and salt with water and then boil them together on the cooper cookware you want to clean. After the tarnishes come off and the water cool off, wash the pan like usual with soap and water.
This one is very simple but it is more suitable for smaller and less stubborn stains. The only thing you need to do is to cut the lemon in half and then rub them over on the tarnished area. The best thing about this method is the lemon is soft so the surface of the pan will not be damaged even in you rub it vigorously.
Lemon and Salt
Now we meet again with the very useful salt, but this time, we pair it with lemon. First of all, cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice out of the lemon over a bowl. Add some salt to the bowl and mix it with the lemon juice until a paste is formed. After the paste is ready, rub it to the copper pan with a soft cloth or sponge. After the tarnishes are gone, rinse the pan with warm water.
Tomato sauce is one of the least conventional copper pan cleaning solution but it works like a magic. This is not as strong as salt and vinegar solution, so it is more suitable to clean small and less stubborn stains. Simply rub the sauce to the tarnished area and let it rest for a minute. After that, rub it with soft cloth and rinse with warm water.
